Projects
Our flagship project, the School Library Project, develops school libraries through partnerships with schools, communities, businesses, and local governments. The libraries serve as centres of learning for each participating school. They carry age-appropriate and relevant books, computers, and other teaching and learning materials for both students and teachers. The project will train adults to manage the library.
We offer supplemental education services to students and non-students, depending on need. These services will include writing clubs, book clubs, remedial tutoring, skills seminars, computer courses, mentoring programs, and adult literacy courses, and will be tailored to the needs of particular schools. We hope to partner with others in the provision of these services to give students the skills and competencies they need tolive a fulfilling and productive life - foundational literacy, communication, critical thinking and problem solving, information and communication technologies, and self-planning and management skills.
Furthermore, because we know some students need additional material support to stay and succeed in school, we will set up a scholarship program to provide financial support for needy students in targeted schools.

Why libraries?
The literacy levels of students in Sierra Leone are low, partly because they do not have access to books and other reading materials. School libraries have been shown to have a positive impact on student achievement, when staffed by trained people. Good libraries offer students the opportunity to connect to a world outside their own and help develop a culture of life-long learning.
